One of the most interesting chapters in the history of drums is largely forgotten today - the various duties performed by military drummers in the past.

In times of peace, it was the drummer's responsibility to beat the 'tattoo' at sunset in the town streets - a signal to publicans to stop serving ale to soldiers and bid them drink up so they could get back to camp in time for curfew.

David Gilmore, Pink Floyd Drummers also played a crucial role in introducing new blood into the army - in the town square, the drummer would demonstrate his prowess on the side drum - literally 'drumming up' new recruits. Many a young lad lived to rue the day he allowed himself to be seduced by the glamour of the drum into believing the recruiting officer's promises...

In times of war, in the thick of battle, drummers would relay the Colonel's orders to the troops - each 'beat' having a specific meaning which had been endlessly 'drummed into' the soldiers in training. When the chaos and noise around them rendered the Colonel's shouts ineffective, the beat of the massed drums indicated when they should regroup, advance, make ready, engage battle, retreat.

One of the more interesting functions of the drummer was to 'parley' with the other side - he would be sent as a go-between across enemy lines - to negotiate terms, arrange and pay ransoms, offer or accept terms of surrender, to deliver and bring back any hostages or prisoners who were to be exchanged.

Samuel Butler Equipped with a small drum for lightness, and with written confirmation of his message attached to his hat, the drummer would approach the enemy camp and stop a musket shot's distance from the gates.

The sound of the 'parley' beaten on his drum was a signal of readiness to trade terms, and a party would come out to lead him, blind-fold, inside the camp to the General's pavilion.

His hidden adgenda to find out as much as he could about enemy numbers and the layout and disposition and any potential weakness of the camp was no secret to the adversaries, and anyone caught speaking to him out of line could reckon with the severest punishment. According to Robert Ward's Articles of War, Number VIII, 'Speaking With The Enemies' Messengers': 'None shall speak with a Drum or Trumpet or any other sent by the Enemy without order upon pain of punishment at discretion.'

Likewise, he had to be on his mettle not to divulge any information - the enemy would often ply him with drinks in the hope of loosening his tongue.

Parleying was obviously a delicate and dangerous undertaking and required skills of the drummer above and beyond musicality and mastery of the technique required to beat complex rhythms on the side drum. Discretion was required, tact, diplomacy, negotiation, sobriety, the ability to read and write, knowledge of foreign languages - skills not commonly found among rank and file soldiers in those days.

Parleying was manifestly a dangerous undertaking. The drummer who entered the enemy camp displaying any lack of confidence, or faltering in his delivery, or indadvertently insulting the enemy, could rightly fear for his safety.

The other extreme was also best avoided.

On Friday August 15 1645, at the height of the English Civil War, the royalist Governor of Sherborne Castle dispatched a drummer at 2 o'clock in the morning with the message he was willing to surrender on honourable terms.

Sir Thomas Fairfax, Captain General of all the Parliamentary Forces In England, could scarcely conceal his temper.

He dispatched his own drummer to offer no terms but quarter, and that should not be expected unless he surrender speedily...The over-confident manner of Fairfax's drummer in delivering this message so incensed the Governor that he almost hanged the fellow on the spot.

The femur is the largest and strongest bone and has a good blood supply. Because of this and its protective surrounding muscle, the shaft requires a large amount of force to fracture. Once a fracture does occur, this same protective musculature usually is the cause of displacement, which commonly occurs with femoral shaft fractures.[1]

As with many orthopedic injuries, neurovascular complications and pain management are the most significant issues in patients who come to the ED. The rich blood supply, when disrupted, can result in significant bleeding. Open fractures have added potential for infection.[2]

The 3 types of femoral shaft fractures are as follows:

Type I - Spiral or transverse (most common)
Type II - Comminuted
Type III - Open

The spectrum of femoral shaft fractures is wide and ranges from nondisplaced femoral stress fractures to fractures associated with severe comminution and significant soft-tissue injury. Femoral shaft (see image below) fractures are generally caused by high-energy forces and are often associated with multisystem trauma. Isolated injuries can occur with repetitive stress and may occur in the presence metabolic bone diseases, metastatic disease, or primary bone tumors

Most femoral diaphyseal fractures are treated surgically with intramedullary nails or plate fixation. The goal of treatment is reliable anatomic stabilization, allowing mobilization as soon as possible. Surgical stabilization is also important for early extremity function, allowing both hip and knee motion and strengthening. Injuries and fractures of the femoral shaft may have significant short- and long-term effects on the hip and knee joints if alignment is not restored.

Treatment of femoral shaft fractures has undergone significant evolution over the past century. Until the recent past, the definitive method for treating femoral shaft fractures was traction or splinting. Before the evolution of modern aggressive fracture treatment and techniques, these injuries were often disabling or fatal. Traction as a treatment option has many drawbacks, including poor control of the length and alignment of the fractured bone, development of pulmonary insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, and joint stiffness due to supine positioning.

The femur is very vascular and fractures can result in significant blood loss into the thigh. Up to 40% of isolated fractures may require transfusion, as such injuries can result in loss of up to 3 units of blood.[3] This factor is significant, especially in elderly patients who have less cardiac reserve.

Femoral fracture patterns vary according to the direction of the force applied and the quantity of force absorbed. A perpendicular force results in a transverse fracture pattern, an axial force may injure the hip or knee, and rotational forces may cause spiral or oblique fracture patterns. The amount of comminution present increases with the amount of energy absorbed by the femur at the time of fracture

This article is not to find Reog Ponorogo's cultural origin because it's so obvious just to mention that by viewing, listening, recalling the history and comparing with local dancings, we can be sure that it is unquestionably one of an ancient Javanese inheritance. This is to counter some claims considering the dancing as a Malaysian culture. Please notice in bold letters Malayans are all around South East Asia. They are spread all over Malaysia, Brunai, some of them are minority in Singapore, and many of them inhabit Sumatra island in Indonesia and its surrounding isles. None of these Malayans dare to perform the fobidden claims but Malaysians. They call the dancing Barongan. The story of Barongan dancing is depicted from phenomenal prophetic story, supposed to be derived from prophet Sulaiman met a tiger story.

It seems that the source of the story is all the difference between Reog Ponorogo and Barongan. The good news is that the less differences are, the easier for us to trace reasonable cultural roots. The bad news is no other way for Indonesians to substitute their congenially warmth with suspiciousness and carefulness. Indonesians have learnt from from the recent past on what the Malaysians have done to Rasa Sayange song few months ago. In the name of justice, truth and honesty, there must not be another stolen culture. As nowadays anything can be sold, ethnic dancings, ethnic songs and many other ethnic performances become more like cultural commodities, thereto they must be protected by international law. Now let's get closer to the dancings. The people of Ponorogo (East Java, Indonesia) palce their pride on Reog Ponorogo dancing. As an older than history, this dancing has been the part of their tradition for quite unremembered long centuries. Reog Ponorogo tells about the king of Kediri (ancient kingdom of East Java) who fought against Singo Barong – a king of tiger headed creature. The fight was won by King of Kediri that made him a master for Singo Barong. No surprise that Malaysians replaced the original epic with a more Islamic story, because it would make another new trademark. Besides, it would be more acceptable to the people oh Malaysia who are known to get a big influence of Islamic traditions.They must do so because the original version was more influenced by ancient Hinduism. It is correct that the Reog Ponorogo is actually a blending of ancient Javanese culture and ancient Hindu culture. The age of Hinduism came earlier than the age of Islamism in South East Asia, Reog Ponorogo must be the pioneer. Compared to Malaysian Barongan.

Infact, many kind of ethnical shows in Javanese traditions are often preliminated by spells which can not be found in some cultures like Malayan culture. Further more, we can see its influence by the dressing detail that ancient Hindu loved to put accessories from head to feet, more than ancient Malayans did, that was the reason why all the dancers in Reog Ponorogo have been appearing wearing plenty of ornamented accessories, on the head, over the shoulder, around the arms (Javanese people call them sengkelat bahu), around the hip, and around the feet. The geometrical ornaments were inspired by elents of nature such as flower, leaf, branch, sun, satr and etc. With the influence of Islamism, ancient Malayan cultures were not accostumed to put many ornaments in the way they dress. The ornaments has preferedly been put on the walls of their mosques. Islamism has a strict law that anybody sohuld not let parts of his body be shown. It did not work to Reog Ponorogo because this dancing is older than the Islamic law. Just for an information, a culture that grows under the influence of Hinduism and Buddhisms establishes a less strict rule in the way their people dress to let the men open chested even when dancing. Then, how dare Malaysians claimed this influenced by ancient Hinduism dancing as theirs, just by changing the story and name?

Pada intinya fraktur dibedakan menjadi dua jenis:yaitu fraktur terbuka dan fraktur tertutup, kondisi ini dibedakan berdasarkan ada tidaknya luka terbuka yang menyertai kondisi fraktur tersebut, fraktur adalah suatu kondisi dimana terjadi dicontinuitas dari tulang tubuh manusia, kondisi ini ada menyebabkan imobilisasi dari seseorang pasien atau oenderita.
pada kondisi faraktur, terutama pada tindakan keperawatan kegawat daruratan yang harus dilakukan dalam menghadapi pasien dengan fraktur dapat di kelompokan berdasarkan jenis frakturnya.pada kondisi fraktur tertutup,hal terpenting yang perlu kita lakukan adalah mengimobilisasi tulang sehingaa dapat menjaga tulang agar tetap stabil pada posisinya, hal ini perlu dilakukan dengan tujuanmencagah terjadiya kerusakan jaringan di daerah sekitar terjadinya fraktur, ini bertujuan juga untuk mencegah terjafinya keruakan syaraf yang mungkin terdapat pada daerah tempat terjadinya fraktu. Hal lain yang juga penting dengan imobilisasi tulang fraktur yaitu untuk mengurangi rasa sakit pasien dan juga utnuk mengurangi resiko terparah dari kondisi fraktur.
kondisi terparah ii sering disebut syndroma kompartemen, al lain yang juga sangat perlu mendapat perhatian pada tindakan pertolongan pertama pada pasien fraktur.
kegawata daruratan lebih ditegakan untuk dilakukan oada pasien dengan fraktur terbuka, pada fraktur terbuka hal pertama yang penting untuk dilalukan adalah sejauh mungkin untuk menghentikan pendarahan, hal yang bisa dilakukan antara lain yaitu dengan mengdeb luka terbuka dan jika perlu tamabah dengan mengunakan skin traksi untuk mengupayakan berhentinya pendarahan serta bertujuan untuk menarik tulang secara mekanisme dari luar.
pada kondisi pendarah, hal terpenting yang perlu kita inggat adalah pasien dalam kondisi kekurangan cairan karena darah banyak berkurang, resiko yang mungkin muncul pada kondisi seperti ini adalah mungkinya terjadi syock hipovolemik. untuk itu hal yang perlu kita kolaborasikan untuk menujan terapai dan kebutuhan cairan tubuh pasien yaitu dengan memberi terapi cairan melalui infus dan pada kondisi tertentu jika kurangnya cairan sudah lebih dari 1500cc maka perlu dipasang IV 2 ine untuk tetap memenuhi kebutuhan caiaran guna menjaga keseimbangan perfusi jatingan tubuh pasien, dan sesegara mungkin untuk di upayakan dilakukan tranfusi. pemantau tanda-tanda vital pasien sangat di wajibkan untuk mengetahui kondisi up date pasien,

Respons Imun Seluler Plasenta terhadap Infeksi Toxoplasma gondii pada Berbagai Umur Kebuntingan Mencit ( Mus musculus)

Pendahuluan
Ø Respons imun akibat infeksi Toxoplasma gondii dapat berupa respons imun humoral maupun respons imun seluler.
Ø Penelitian yang membutuhkan terjadinya respon imun humoral terhadap T. gondii diantaranya dilakukan pada kera Jawa ( Macacafascicularis) (Sasmita, 1996).
Ø T. gondii adalah parasitintraseluler obligat.
Ø T. gondii membangkitkan respons imun seluler lebih dominan dibanding dengan respons humoral.
Ø Kemampuan T. gondii membangkitkan respons imun seluler dicirikan dengan respons yang kuat ke arah sel T helper-1 (Th1) yang ditandai dengan produksi sitokin Th1 antara lain :
· interferon -γ (IFN-γ) dan
· interleukin-2 (IL-2).
Ø Peningkatan IFN-γ dimaksudkan untuk membunuh parasit,
Ø Peningkatan sitokin Th1 tersebut justru merugikan bagi fetus karena induksi respons sitokin Th1 yang kuat pada fetalmaternal interface menyebabkan penolakan fetus
Ø Pada infeksi T.gondii, IFN-γ dihasilkan oleh :
· Th1
· Natural Killer (NK)
· sel T sitolitik, yaitu (sel T CD8+)
Ø Makrofag yang terinfeksi T. gondii memproduksi IL-12.
Ø Makrofag sebagai Antigen Presenting Cell (APC) mengekspresikan Major Histocompatibility Complex I (MHC I) sehingga ditangkap oleh reseptor sel T (Cytotoxic T Leucocyte, CTL).
Ø T. gondii menginfeksi semua tipe sel termasuk berbagai sel di uteroplasenta, maka diasumsikan reaksi se luler akibat infeksi T. gondii juga terjadi di uteroplasenta.
Ø Populasi leukosit di uteroplasenta adalah :
· makrofag,
· sel NK,
· sel T CTL (sel T CD8+) dan
· sel T CD4+ (Th)

Tujuan dari penelitian
Untuk membuktikan kebenaran asumsi tersebut dengan membuktikan :
adanya perbedaan respons seluler desidua antara mencit yang diinfeksi T. gondii dengan mencit yang tidak diinfeksi baik pada umur kebuntingan minggu pertama, kedua maupun ketiga, berdasarkan pada peningkatan persentase jumlah limfosit desidua yang mengekspresikan IFN-γ.

Metode Penelitian
Hewan Coba:
ü Mencit ( Mus musculus) betina umur dua bulan galur Swiss, diperoleh dari Laboratorium Hewan Coba Fakultas Farmasi Universitas Sanata Dharma Yogyakarta.
Isolat T. gondii :
ü Isolat T. gondii yang dipergunakan galur RH yang diperoleh dari Pusat Studi Bioteknologi Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta.
Isolat diperbanyak dengan cara dipasasekan ke mencit.
↓
Mencit diinjeksi secara intraperitoneal dengan dosis 103 takizoit tiap mencit.
↓
Empat hari kemudian, ke dalam cavum peritoneum mencit ditambahkan 5 ml NaCl fisiologis dan cairan diambil kembali.
↓
Parasit dalam cairan peritoneal dihitung dengan hemosito - meter.

Perlakuan hewan coba :
Gertak birahi : penyuntikan kombinasi 5 IU PMSG dan 5 IU hCG dilakukan untuk mendapatkan umur kebuntingan yang sama pada 48 ekor mencit penelitian.
Setiap satu ekor mencit betina dikandangkan dengan satu ekor mencit jantan.
( Biasanya, mencit kawin pada malam hari)
↓
Keesokan harinya pada vagina mencit betina diperiksa keberadaan vaginal plug.
( Apabila vaginal plug positif berarti mencit telah bunting 0,5 hari (Clark et al., 2001).
↓
Mencit bunting dibagi secara acak menjadi 6 kelompok penelitian :
↓
1. Kelompok K1, sebagai kelompok kontrol, mencit bunting 4,5 hari (kelompok minggu pertama) tidak diinfeksi T. gondii.
2. Kelompok K2, sebagai kelompok kontrol , mencit bunting 9,5 hari (kelompok minggu kedua) tidak diinfeksi T. gondii.
3. Kelompok K3, sebagai kelompok kontrol , mencit bunting 14,5 hari (kelompok minggu ketiga) tidak diinfeksi T. gondii.
4. Kelompok P1, sebagai kelompok perlakuan mencit bunting 4,5 hari ( kelompok minggu pertama) diinfeksi T. gondii.
5. Kelompok P2, sebagai kelompok perlakuan mencit bunting 9,5 hari (kelompok minggu kedua) diinfeksi T. gondii,
6. P3, sebagai kelompok perlakuan mencit bunting 14,5 hari (kelompok minggu ketiga) diinfeksi T. gondii.

↓
Empat hari setelah infeksi, mencit dikorbankan dan plasenta mencit diambil untuk dilakukan pewarnaan imunohistokimia.
↓
Plasenta difiksasi dalam buffer formalin 10 % untuk dilakukan embbeding paraffin.

Pengamatan ekspresi IFN-γ desidua dengan Pengecatan
Pengecatan imunohistokimia menggunakan streptavidin dan biotin
(Dako LSAB+ Kit Peroxidase)
↓
Jaringan plasenta dalam embedding paraffin dipotong setebal 4-5 μm
↓
Preparat dideparafinisasi dalam xylol 2 kali masing-masing 5 menit, selanjutnya secara berturut-turut dimasukkan dalam etanol absolut 2 kali 3 menit, etanol 95% 2 kali masing -masing 3 menit dan etanol 70% 3 menit, terakhir dicuci dengan aquabides.
↓
Preparat ditetesi dengan proteinase K 5 menit, dicuci dengan phosphate buffer saline (PBS) dua kali
↓
ditetesi hydrogen peroxidase (H2O2) 3% selama 5 menit dan dicuci dengan PBS 2 kali. Setiap sayatan diinkubasi dalam antibodi poliklonal kelinci terhadap IFN-γ anti-mouse 30 menit.
↓
Selanjutnya sayatan diinkubasi dalam antibodi sekunder yang dilabel dengan biotin (Link) selama 30 menit, dicuci dengan PBS dua kali.
↓
Kemudian preparat ditetesi streptavidin peroxidase selama 15 -30 menit, dicuci dengan PBS dua kali dan terakhir dimasukkan dalam larutan substrat Diaminobenzidine (DAB) selama 5 -10 menit.
↓
Counterstain digunakan hematoxylin, diinkubasi 30 detik pada suhu kamar kemudian dicuci 3 kali dengan akuades.
↓
Preparat selanjutnya dikeringkan dan ditutup dengan cover glass.

Rancangan Percobaan dan Analisis Data
Ø Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan pola faktorial 2 x 3. Randomized posttestonly control group design , merupakan rancangan penelitian yang dipilih, karena pengukuran awal tidak mungkin dilakukan.
Ø Analisis efek infeksi Toxoplasma gondii terhadap respons seluler desidua berdasarkan pengamatan perubahan persentase jumlah limfosit desidua yang mengekspresikan IFN –γ Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) dilanjutkan dengan uji beda least significance difference (LSD).

Hasil dan Pembahasan
Penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa terdapat enam macam protein utama pada membrane T. gondii strain RH stadium takizoit, yaitu :
ü protein dengan massa molekul relatif 70, 60, 56, 47, 38 dan 27 kDa (Suwanti, 1996). Protein permukaan tersebut bertanggung jawab terhadap timbulnya respons imun pada inang.
Pada penelitian ini respons imun seluler desidua ditentukan berdasarkan perubahan persentase jumlah limfosit desidua yang mengekspresikan IFN- g

Jalur Pertama, infeksi T. gondii pada makrofag merangsang: · Makrofag memproduksi IL -12, TNF- , IL-1 , dan IL-15. · Sitokin IL-12, bersama-sama dengan IL-1β, IL-15 dan · TNF-α, merangsang sel NK memproduksi IFN-γ. · Sitokin IFN-γ yang dihasilkan sel NK mengaktifkan makrofag TNF -α dan IFN-γ bekerja secara sinergis dengan TNF -α menginduksi ekspresi intracellular nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), yang menghasilkan nitricoxide (NO) untuk membunuh T. gondii intraseluler. 2.

Jalur kedua, infeksi T. gondii pada makrofag atau APC mendorong sel tersebut memproduksi IL-12. APC mempresentasi peptide parasit melalui MHC II sehingga dikenali oleh sel Th (sel T CD4+). Sel Th yang berikatan dengan MHC II memproduksi IL-2. Sitokin IL-2 dari sel Th dan IL-12 dari APC mendorong diferensiasi dari Th menjadi Th1. Sel Th1 menghasilkan IFN - . 3.

Jalur ketiga, makrofag atau APC yang terinfeksi mengekspresikan MHC I yang dikenali oleh sel T CTL (sel T sitotoksik atau sel T CD8+). Ikatan sel T CTL dengan APC melalui MHC I dan keberadaan IL -2 yang dihasilkan sel Th memicu sel T CTL menghasilkan IFN -γ.

Ø Peningkatan ekspresi IFN-γ pada penelitian ini juga sama dengan hasil yang ditunjukkan pada infeksi malaria. Menurut Fried et al. (1998),

Ø Uji LSD menunjukkan perbedaan yang bermakna (p<0,05)>

Ø Ekspresi IFN- γ pada mencit terinfeksi minggu pertama tidak berbeda nyata dengan pada minggu ketiga.

Ø Pada kelompok mencit yang diinfeksi, presentase jumlah limfosit desidua yang Ø mengekspresikan IFN-γ pada kelompok yang diinfeksi minggu pertama tinggi dan menurun pada minggu kedua selanjutnya naik lagi pada minggu ketiga. Meskipun secara statistik tidak berbeda nyata, tetapi apabila dihitung peningkatan persentase jumlah limfosit yang mengekspresikan IFN -γ pada mencit terinfeksi dibanding dengan yang tidak terinfeksi, tertinggi pada kelompok mencit bunting minggu ketiga (2,9 kali).

Ø Sedangkan pada kelompok mencit yang diinfeksi pada umur minggu pertama dan kedua secara berturut-turut 1,5 kali dan 1,4 kali. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa umur saat mendapatkan infeksi T. gondii mempengaruhi reaksi seluler pada plasenta. Kesimpulan

Ø Respons seluler terhadap infeksi T. gondii terjadi pada desidua mencit (Mus musculus) sebagai hewan coba.

Ø Respons tersebut berbeda pada tiap umur kebuntingan (minggu pertama, kedua maupun ketiga).

Ø Penelitian lebih lanjut tentang pengaruh respons imun seluler desidua melawan infeksi T. gondii terhadap patologi plasenta dan kelainan kongenital perlu dilakukan.

Ø Hal ini karena mengingat kenyataan bahwa untuk me mpertahankan kebuntingan, tubuh menghambat respons imun seluler karena berbahaya bagi fetus.

Di Indonesia, reggae hampir selalu diidentikkan dengan rasta. Padahal, reggae dan rasta sesungguhnya adalah dua hal yang berbeda. "Reggae adalah nama genre musik, sedangkan rasta atau singkatan dari rastafari adalah sebuah pilihan jalan hidup, way of life," ujar Ras Muhamad (23), pemusik reggae yang sudah 12 tahun menekuni dunia reggae di New York dan penganut ajaran filosofi rasta. Repotnya, di balik ingar-bingar dan kegembiraan yang dibawa reggae, ada stigma yang melekat pada para penggemar musik tersebut.
Stigma tersebut turut melekat pada filosofi rasta itu sendiri. "Di sini, penggemar musik reggae, atau sering salah kaprah disebut rastafarian, diidentikkan dengan pengisap ganja dan bergaya hidup semaunya, tanpa tujuan," ungkap Ras yang bernama asli Muhamad Egar ini. Padahal, filosofi rasta sesungguhnya justru mengajarkan seseorang hidup bersih, tertib, dan memiliki prinsip serta tujuan hidup yang jelas. Penganut rasta yang sesungguhnya menolak minum alkohol, makan daging, dan bahkan mengisap rokok. "Para anggota The Wailers (band asli Bob Marley) tidak ada yang merokok. Merokok menyalahi ajaran rastafari," papar Ras.

Ras mengungkapkan, tidak semua penggemar reggae adalah penganut rasta, dan sebaliknya, tidak semua penganut rasta harus menyenangi lagu reggae. Reggae diidentikkan dengan rasta karena Bob Marley—pembawa genre musik tersebut ke dunia adalah seorang penganut rasta.
Ras menambahkan, salah satu bukti bahwa komunitas reggae di Indonesia sebagian besar belum memahami ajaran rastafari adalah tidak adanya pemahaman terhadap hal-hal mendasar dari filosofi itu. "Misalnya waktu saya tanya mereka tentang Marcus Garvey dan Haile Selassie, mereka tidak tahu. Padahal itu adalah dua tokoh utama dalam ajaran rastafari," ungkap pemuda yang menggelung rambut panjangnya dalam sorban ini.

Pemusik Tony Q Rastafara pun mengakui, meski ia menggunakan embel-embel nama Rastafara, tetapi dia bukan seorang penganut rasta. Tony mencoba memahami ajaran rastafari yang menurut dia bisa diperas menjadi satu hakikat filosofi, yakni cinta damai. "Yang saya ikuti cuma cinta damai itu," tutur Tony yang tidak mau menyentuh ganja itu. Namun, meski tidak memahami dan menjalankan seluruh filosofi rastafari, para penggemar dan pelaku reggae di Indonesia mengaku mendapatkan sesuatu di balik musik yang mereka cintai itu. Biasanya, dimulai dari menyenangi musik reggae (dan lirik lagu-lagunya), para penggemar itu kemudian mulai tertarik mempelajari filosofi dan ajaran yang ada di baliknya.

Seperti diakui Hendry Moses Billy, gitaris grup Papa Rasta asal Yogya, yang mengaku musik reggae semakin menguatkan kebenciannya terhadap ketidakadilan dan penyalahgunaan wewenang. Setiap ditilang polisi, ia lebih memilih berdebat daripada "berdamai". "Masalahnya bukan pada uang, tetapi praktik seperti itu tidak adil," tandas Moses yang mengaku sering dibuntuti orang tak dikenal saat beli rokok tengah malam karena dikira mau beli ganja.
Sementara Steven mengaku dirinya menjadi lebih bijak dalam memandang hidup sejak menggeluti musik reggae. Musik reggae, terutama yang dipopulerkan Bob Marley, menurut Steven, mengajarkan perdamaian, keadilan, dan antikekerasan. "Jadi kami memberontak terhadap ketidakadilan, tetapi tidak antikemapanan. Kalau reggae tumbuh, maka di Indonesia tidak akan ada perang. Indonesia akan tersenyum dengan reggae," ujar Steven mantap.
Sila dan Joni dari Bali menegaskan, seorang rasta sejati tidak harus identik dengan penampilan ala Bob Marley. "Rasta sejati itu ada di dalam hati," tandas Sila sambil mengepalkan tangan kanan untuk menepuk dadanya.

Bob Marley was born in the small village of Nine Mile in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica as Nesta Robert Marley.

A Jamaican passport official would later swap his first and middle names. His father Norval Sinclair Marley was a white English Jamaican. Norval was a Marine officer and captain, as well as a plantation overseer, when he married Cedella Booker, an Afro-Jamaican then eighteen years old.

Norval provided financial support for his wife and child, but seldom saw them, as he was often away on trips. In 1955, when Marley was 10 years old, his father died of a heart attack at age 60.Marley suffered racial prejudice as a youth, because of his mixed racial origins and faced questions about his own racial identity throughout his life. He once reflected:“ I don't have prejudice against meself. My father was a white and my mother was black.

Them call me half-caste or whatever. Me don't dip on nobody's side. Me don't dip on the black man's side nor the white man's side. Me dip on God's side, the one who create me and cause me to come from black and white.”

Although Marley recognized his mixed ancestry, throughout his life and because of his beliefs, he self-identified as a black African. In songs such as "Black Progress,", "African Herbsman," "Buffalo Soldier", "War" and others, Marley sings about the struggles of blacks and Africans against oppression from the West or "Babylon."

Marley became friends with Neville "Bunny" Livingston (later known as Bunny Wailer), with whom he started to play music. He left school at the age of 14 to make music with Joe Higgs, a local singer and devout Rastafari. It was at a jam session with Higgs and Livingston that Marley met Peter McIntosh (later known as Peter Tosh), who had similar musical ambitions.

In 1962, Marley recorded his first two singles, "Judge Not" and "One Cup of Coffee", with local music producer Leslie Kong. These songs, released on the Beverley's label under the pseudonym of Bobby Martell,[16] attracted little attention. The songs were later re-released on the box set, Songs of Freedom, a posthumous collection of Marley's work.

he 1967 edition of the Dictionary of Jamaican English lists reggae as "a recently estab. sp. for rege", as in rege-rege, a word that can mean either "rags, ragged clothing" or "a quarrel, a row".

Reggae as a musical term first appeared in print with the 1968 rocksteady hit "Do the Reggay" by The Maytals, but it was already being used in Kingston, Jamaica as the name of a slower dance and style of rocksteady. As Reggae artist Derrick Morgan stated:

We didn't like the name rock steady, so I tried a different version of "Fat Fat Man". It changed the beat again, it used the organ to creep. Bunny Lee, the producer, liked that. He created the sound with the organ and the rhythm guitar. It sounded like ‘reggae, reggae' and that name just took off. Bunny Lee started using the world and soon all the musicians were saying ‘reggae, reggae, reggae.

Reggae historian Steve Barrow credits Clancy Eccles with altering the Jamaican patois word streggae ("loose woman") into reggae.However, Toots Hibbert said:

There's a word we used to use in Jamaica called 'streggae'. If a girl is walking and the guys look at her and say 'Man, she's streggae' it means she don't dress well, she look raggedy. The girls would say that about the men too. This one morning me and my two friends were playing and I said, 'OK man, let's do the reggay.'

It was just something that came out of my mouth. So we just start singing 'Do the reggay, do the reggay' and created a beat. People tell me later that we had given the sound it's name. Before that people had called it blue-beat and all kind of other things. Now it's in the Guinness World of Records.

Bob Marley is said to have claimed that the word reggae came from a Spanish term for "the king's music".The liner notes of To the King, a compilation of Christian gospel reggae, suggest that the word reggae was derived from the Latin regis meaning "to the king."

this my first note, hai let me introduce my self, my name is Eko Priatmoko

i'm 22 years old, i life in Purwokerto, it's a special place which i have been visited. it's so cool and so comfort, but i have some problem with it's leaguage because here is using NGAPAK style which is different with my own leanguage.

so far i fell comfort with my new environment, because it's fell streng..

i love music esspecially for rege music, it's could make me fell so bright, i has been flow in my blood, every day clean up my brain.

flow with the wind and fell the freedom, that my spirit for going my life, so nice when life develop as well as our hope...heee

i love football much too, my favorit football club is chelsea, i love to play football and i have own football team which is my team with my classmate in my accademy.
